Steve Brunner, President
Brunner founded King of the Mountain Sports Marketing in 2005 and has established the company as a leader for marketing and communications programs for professional cycling and lifestyle events. From 2000 to 2005, Brunner was Director of Properties and Sports Marketing for the United States Olympic Committee, overseeing joint marketing programs with National Governing Bodies, Olympic Trials and special sporting events. He also served as Associate Executive Director of USA Wrestling for a short period of time after almost four years as Director of Marketing at Turner Sports, 1996-99.At Turner Sports, he oversaw the marketing for the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York, winning several marketing awards as well as working to drive sales to a record amount for that event. From 1991 to 1996, he was Vice President of Development and Communications for Medalist Sports, which was and currently is the industry leader in staging professional cycling events. His programs helped grow the the Tour de Trump, and then the Tour DuPont, and most recently Tour de Georgia and Tour of Missouri into world-class professional cycling events. He ran cross country and track and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire was he was all conference.
Most memorable career moments: “Many, but four stand out, including producing the first Tour of China and ending a stage at the Great Wall (in 1995)…creating the opportunity for a vinyl wrap to promote the 1998 Goodwill Games on the drum of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for no dollars (now it’s sold for millions)…creating the 2020 Vision campaign and strategy that helped get wrestling back into the Olympics…and being the first major streetball team (S.K.Y.) to tour China while also creating a reality series for that brand on national TV in that country.”
Kyle Gapp, Director of Marketing Services
Kyle Gapp oversees on all market services, which include advertising, design management, promotional creation, and execution development. He is responsible for sponsorship sales support where he is involved with research and development, presentation creation, sales coordination with clients and partnership fulfillment. Since his time at KOM, Kyle has been involved with the Tour of California, USA Pro Challenge, USA Pro Cycling Championships, and partnership fulfillment for Tom Danielson.Kyle graduated from University of Northern Iowa in 2008 where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing. While at UNI, he worked as an intern for the marketing department of UNI Athletics. In this role, he contacted area businesses to increase ticket revenue and build partnerships for all sporting events. During this time he also helped with in game sponsor promotions and event operations for several sports.Kyle grew up playing competitive basketball and baseball in the state of Iowa, where his team was Class 2A State Runner-Up (Basketball) in 2004.
