KOM Sports Retained To Help Launch New Colorado and Virginia Pro Cycling Events

King of the Mountain (KOM) Sports Marketing of Colorado Springs, Colo., has been retained by RPM Events Group LLC for sponsorship and marketing activation behind the newly-created world-class cycling events and festival in Colorado and Virginia, both set to launch in August 2017.

KOM Sports Marketing has more than 20 years of experience in integrated marketing including sponsorship, brand and event marketing, public relations and media operations around many of the top professional cycling races in the United States. In 2015, KOM Sports Marketing worked on the World Championships in Richmond, Va., USA Pro Challenge in Colorado and Tour of Alberta in Canada. They were also the official marketing agency for the World Championships for wrestling in 2015, which was lauded as the best-ever held by the international federation of the sport.

“KOM Sports Marketing brings a rich and successful history of developing sponsorship and marketing programs for world-class events, especially in the professional cycling arena,” said Tim Miller, the Chief Operating Officer of RPM Events Group. “Their diverse expertise in this type of enterprise will complement the hired staff we will have for this venture. They will focus heavily on sponsorship within the cycling events, but, will bring a wealth of experience into the creation, development and management of our sponsorship marketing activation platforms, which they did quite well at last year’s World Championships.”

KOM Sports Launches Elite Youth Running Club

King of the Mountain Sports Marketing has launched an elite running club for kids of high school age in El Paso County (Colorado Springs). The club will contain between 8 to 12 selected runners and hold its first practice November 3 after the Colorado State Cross Country Championships. It is a USA Track & Field sanctioned team that will compete in state and regional competitions with hopes of individual or team qualifiers going to national competition. The team will be called KOM ELITE. The coach will be Chuck Schwartz, current coach at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs and a former All American and recent Hall of Fame inductee at Adams State in Alamosa, Colo. The team will be organized by Cody Hill, a KOM employee and former runner at Western State. He is also former manager Boulder Running Company in Colorado Springs. KOM Sports Marketing’s president Steve Brunner is owner and operator of the club.

World Cycling League to Debut in March

WCL Logo wTag.FinalLos Angeles – The World Cycling League is set to premiere its high-speed bicycle racing on steeply-banked velodromes in a highly entertaining format, March 18-19 at Carson’s VELO Sports Center indoor velodrome.

According to league owners, many of the elements that make modern sports popular will be part of the WCL. The launch event will feature three sessions in a format called “TeamTrak”. The format will feature six teams of seven riders each (4 men and 3 women) matching wheels in three, two- hour and 30 minute racing sessions on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. KOM Sports Marketing Named Marketing Agency for Richmond 2015

World Championships for Cycling head to U.S.A. for First Time Since 1986

KOM Sports Marketing has been enlisted as marketing agency of record by Richmond 2015, the organizers of this year’s World Championships for road cycling, September 19-27. KOM will be building out several major marketing platforms for the World Championships, including three designated “Fanzones” on course, a spectator “Fanfest” at the start/finish line, and several other consumer programs.

KOM Sports Marketing has partnered with industry veteran Chris Gutowsky on the project. KOM Sports has played various roles in sponsorship, marketing and communications for all the major North American stage races the past decade, including Amgen Tour of California, USA Pro Challenge, Tour of Alberta, Tour of Missouri and Tour de Georgia.

“We were thrilled to get a call from Richmond 2015,” said KOM Sports President Steve Brunner. “We’re working diligently to create effective marketing programs that can be transferred into opportunities for their existing endemic partners and newly-recruited sponsors. The main objective is building integrated platforms that will serve corporate marketing objectives as well as aiding the spectator experience. We have as much experience as any company in this space, so, naturally we’re honored to make this a big event for American cycling and Richmond 2015.”

The event features an elite professional club team time trial, men’s and women’s individual time trials and road races. The races all will be contested over an eight-day period in and around Richmond, Virginia. The last World Championships for road cycling were contested in Colorado Springs, the home of KOM Sports Marketing. The event is the biggest annual event for the sport of cycling and will feature international television coverage in 150 countries and serve media outlets from more than 50 countries.

KOM Sports Stages Freestyle Wrestling World Cup

Los Angeles Event Deemed “Huge Success”

worldcup1KOM Sports Marketing helped client USA Wrestling stage the men’s Freestyle World Cup in Los Angeles, April 11-12, 2015. United World Wrestling, the international federation, hailed the event “one of the best wrestling events ever staged outside the Olympics.”  The event, held at the world-famous Forum, was contested by the top eight freestyle wrestling countries in the world, including powerhouses Russia, Iran and the United States.

“The event was a benchmark for future events,” said KOM Sports Marketing President Steve Brunner. “We worked hard with USA Wrestling, its chairman and benefactor Andy Barth, to stage the World Cup in a new and dynamic way from lighting,
staging, in-venue presentation, and broadcast.”worldcup2

The tournament’s gold-medal match featured Iran versus the U.S.A. and had an Olympic feel with a pro-national, large boisterous crowd. Iran prevailed in the final match to win. It was a precursor to the exciting action that will take place at the wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas this September, another project KOM Sports is helping USA Wrestling to produce.

Amgen Tour of California Finishes In Dramatic Fashion

For its 10th year, KOM Sports Marketing worked the Amgen Tour of California, considered “America’s Race”. The race was one of the most dramatic ever on American soil, as Slovakian superstar Peter Sagan of Tinkoff-Saxo won a time bonus by the mere length of the tire’s rubber (see photo) to capture the overall championship of the eight-day race. Sagan celebrated by popping a wheelie and rode it 100 meters back to the award’s podium. It was a fitting ending to the most exciting race in the event history as of tens of thousand of people packed the grounds around the world-famous Rose Bowl iAmgen3n Pasadena, Calif.

Sports for the 10th straight year. President Steve Brunner has worked all events and said the race never looked better. “It’s been an honor to work with Amgen2AEG and Medalist Sports for a decade,” Brunner said. “It really doesn’t seem that long ago when the race kicked off its inaugural ride to tremendous fanfare in San Francisco in 2006. It really has been quite a privilege to help build the race.”

The event also staged its first women’s stage race. The men’s race, televised in 180 countries and on NBC and NBC Sports Network, featured more than 130 of the top professionals including Britain’s superstar sprinter Mark Cavendish of Etixx-Quick-Step team, who won four stages (see photo).
